Nestling in a bend in the River Serein, the medieval town of Noyers has kept many reminders of the Middle Ages: old side streets lined with typical houses, small town squares with picturesque names, three fortified doors and ramparts flanked by towers. One of the oldest houses in Noyers-sur-Serein is now the town hall: its foundations date back to the 12th century. The medieval city museum and the primary school are based in the former college founded in 1633.
Built in the 15th and 16th centuries in the Flamboyant Gothic style, the Church of Our Lady has some remarkable stalls from the 17th century.
Other sights to see are the washhouse from the early 19th century, the Golden Fleece house (Maison de la Toison d'Or) for its 16th-century façade, the Trade Guild house (Maison du Compagnonnage) adorned with carvings, or the Renaissance-style Kamato house.
A nice Museum of Naïve and Popular Arts has some fine collections, including books of illustrations by Hokusai, who invented "manga" in 1814.
