The village of Bec-Hellouin is one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. This charming village with its half-timbered houses and its flowery streets located in the department of Eure, in the valley of Risle, 6 km from Brionne, 40 km from Rouen, 50 km from Evreux.
Bec-Hellouin houses the famous abbey, the abbey of Notre-Dame, and the village was built around this place. Today, a community of Benedictine monks still occupies the premises. Visit the site every day, either free or by visiting tour.
Below the village lies the greenway bike path that connects 42km Le Bec-Hellouin to Evreux.
In addition to the abbey, Le Bec-Hellouin also has a monastery, the monastery St. Frances of Rome.
The village is suitable for horseback riding, equestrian center is also located close to the abbey in the village of Bec-Hellouin.
Interesting new addition: The Bec Hellouin farm was created by Perrine and Charles HERVE-GRUYER in 2006.
Perrine and Charles run this market garden in Normandy – France, but not your usual market garden: « we have started our project with the intention of exploring ecologically sound food growing practices, despite neither of us having previous experience of farming ».
Untainted by knowledge of conventional western practices we took on the principles of permaculture and drew upon sources as varied as the practices of 19th century Parisian Market Gardener’s, Amazonian tribes and Asian EM (Efficient Micro-organisms) related practices.
