The spa town of Bagnoles-de-l'Orne lies in a lush green setting in the heart of Andaines forest. As well as being famous for its water with beneficial properties and a great place for relaxation, it offers a raft of outdoor activities such as walking, horse riding, mountain biking, golf and tennis.
Specialising in the treatment of rheumatology and vascular medicine, its thermal baths are the place to go for medical cures. Meanwhile, wellness and fitness breaks are offered in the Espace Cerny centre.
Bagnoles-de-l'Orne is also architecturally interesting with a host of charming belle-époque and Art Deco buildings – witness the Casino, hotels and villas dotted around the stunning lake. Turrets, bow windows, attic windows, balconies and other architectural details bring undeniable charm to the town.
Also worth a visit is what was the Château Goupil, now the town hall, and its park/arboretum with over 150 tree species!
The town organises an annual programme of entertainment and festivities. The key events include the Vendredis de l'Été street performance festival on Friday evenings in July and August; the Clés de Bagnoles music festival on Sundays at 5pm in July and August; a music and fireworks show over the lake on 15 August; and the Automne Gourmand gourmet food festival every September.
